on peace

Peace is human interaction
without the use or the threat of force.
We have the right to pursue a peaceful life.
Government is necessary to secure that right.
Violators of that right are criminals.

Justice is the principle that we should
respond to each other's behavior rationally.
Thus, trust is the just consequence of honesty.
Profit is the just consequence of productiveness.
Punishment is the just consequence of crime.

The tragic error of pacifism is the idea
that peace can be secured without justice.
A pacifist response to a criminal's acts
denies justice to his victims and
denies peace to us all.

Thoughtful tolerance is a virtue.
Tolerance without judgment is not.
Lovers of peace do not tolerate
crimes by individuals
or by nations.
